Does the Piano know how best to play itself? (Video)

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 07:18

Does a piano know its own full potential? Can it write and play a master piece by itself?? Does a piano know what the other instruments around it are fully capable of? Does a piano know how to work in best with the other instruments around it? I don’t think so. So why do we think that we know best for ourselves and others? Why do we set up limits of what we can and can not do?

Jesus taught us how He wants us to pray in Matthew 6:9-13. To go along with the "Left Handed Gospel" here is a way to remember how to pray using your right hand starting with the thumb that is closest to you when praying and moving along each finger:

Praise

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”(verse 9)

SOS – How to read the bible for all its worth (Part 1 the basics)

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 03:26

5 Top Tips for reading the Bible for all its worth:

  1. PRAY! Pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you and give you understanding
  2. Source different versions of the Bible
  3. Study large blocks of text instead of individual verses
  4. Ignore headings (IE: chapters, subheadings and verses) and try not to start with joining words (EG: but, therefore, likewise, etc.).  Instead determine where the topic begins and start from there.
  5. Use a tool like S. O. S. (details below)

SOS – How to read the bible for all its worth (Part 2 the next level)

Basic SOS is all most people need, most of the time but let’s take a look at the next level.  “Sitz im Leben”. Are you OK, did you sneeze? No this not a German blessing after a sneeze but it is actually the next level of studying the bible using a tool like S. O. S.  It sounds complicated but really it’s not.  It is an old German phrase that roughly means “settings in life”.  It is just the process of putting the bible into the daily life of people in its proper context.

SMART Goal Setting for Following Jesus

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 03:13

The 3 biggest reasons people fail to change are:

1.  They don’t really see the need to change.  The change is imposed on them based on the expectations, or  perceived expectations, of others (externally).

2. Lack of CLEAR, SPECIFIC and MEASURABLE goals.

3.  Little or no SUPPORT (training, backup) and ACCOUNTABILITY in reaching those goals.

Addressing these issues will increase your ability to succeed in life. (See also a related article on SMART Goal Setting for Fishing for People)

Is that an apple tree?

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 02:49

Stan, a good friend, and I were walking in the garden the other day.  He asked “is that an apple tree?” and pointed to a tree that was about 600 mm (2 ft) tall .  It was jam packed with fruit (over twenty) . I told him that it was a fairly young apple tree.  He was amazed at the amount of fruit on it and asked me how it had so many apples on it?  Was it a special type of apple tree?

What is MAWL and why change 'Leave' to 'Launch'?

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 01:06
MAWL is a training (discipleship) tool that is at the very core of Disciple Making Movements (DMM) and Church Planting Movements (CPM). The traditional tool stood for "Model, Assist, Watch and Leave". Article explains the reason why we changed it to "Model, Assist, Watch and Launch".

Decision Making, Conflict Resolution and 'ORID'

Submitted by Macka on Wed, 04/13/2022 - 00:43

There are four basic steps to group decision making and or conflict resolution.

  1. Prayer
  2. Consult any Scripture on the topic
  3. Apply a tool like 'ORID'
  4. Ask yourself: “What would Jesus do?”

So the group has hit a fork in the road and you want to move past it. What do you do?

Firstly get yourself right with God and seek guidance in prayer.
